The Great Omlet Bake Off

Is your lemon cake lighter than air? Do your meringues melt in the mouth? Are your buns better than Mary Berry’s? Then take your place in The Great Omlet Bake Off. With a £100 Omlet voucher up for grabs, it’s time to put on your pinnies, collect those eggs, and ready, steady, bake.

Rustle up your best sandwich cake, loaf of bread, tray of muffins or any other baked treat, and take two photos. One photo needs to show you holding your baked goods, and the other should be a clear shot of just the food.

You can enter by one of three ways: Send your images by email, using subject line ‘Great Omlet Bake Off’; on our Facebook Page; or on Twitter, using #greatomletbakeoff (Closing date for entries is September 15th.)

We will choose our top 10 bakes and put these to the public vote, with a £25, £50 and a £100 voucher to be won.

Eglu on ITV’s This Morning

Two This Morning appearances in one month!? What can we say…they must be Omlet fans! If you watched the show yesterday you might have spotted the Eglu Classic and Boughton Chicken Coop on their Pet Clinic Feature. Paul, the vet, discussed how to keep chickens and what health checks to do, and our model hen did a very good job of keeping cool, even when a camera was zoomed in on her rear end.

Ruth and Eammon didn’t seem convinced by the idea of keeping chickens as pets, but we think if we loaned them an Eglu for a few weeks they would soon see the light. After all, what could be better than having pets that have comedy value, are cheap to keep and provide you with free eggs?

Click here to catch up on the episode and skip to 1 hour 12 minutes in to see the Eglu.

Tweet of the Week

This week’s Tweet of the Week came from @guychurchward.

He tweeted a photo of his Eglu Cube hiding under trees, titled: Redwood ‘Fairy Ring’ all trimmed and proper #lovebeingaruralhippy

As if this picture wasn’t impressive enough, we were lucky enough to take a peek at some more photos of Guy’s garden, and it certainly has the wow factor. We counted at least two Eglus Gos, an Eglu Classic, an Eglu Cube and many handmade enclosures in his beautiful Californian surroundings. All topped off with a couple of hammocks for him to swing in and watch the chickens. Now, that’s what we call a henthusiast!

Beatrix and Alonzo

We love running competitions, and we love it even more when the prize winners get in touch to tell us how happy they are. This month we received a lovely email and photo from Beatrix’s Mum, to thank us for her daughter’s Alonzo the Chicken book prize. She was excited to start reading her new book, but we hear she was even more excited that her picture would be in the Omlet newsletter. What a little star!

Warwickshire College Welcomes New Qutes

If there was a competition for the largest number of Double Qutes in one room, Warwickshire College would win it. This impressive wall of Qute Hamster and Gerbil Cages is the latest addition to the college’s Animal Welfare and Veterinary Nursing school, and the teachers think they are fantastic. The students might have a bit of a surprise when they come back after the holidays though…

Eizabethan Guinea Pigs

It turns out that guinea pigs have been kept as pets for much longer than we realised. This painting, dating back to around 1580, shows Elizabethan children holding a little pet guinea pig in their arms. It is believed that it is the first portrait of a guinea pig in English art, and it will be on display in the National Portrait Gallery as part of the Elizabeth I and Her People exhibition. See it on display from the 10th October.

This does make us wonder what the pet housing was like back then. (Somewhat different to the Eglu we expect!)

Omlet Newsletter – Friday, 16th August 2013

Hello,

Here’s a tip – always check your Grub before filling it with food. Eglu owner Kerry made a rather prickly discovery in her hens’ favourite feeder when she went to top it up recently. We’re not sure what the chickens made of the new house guest, but we think it’s rather adorable. Who know’s whether the clever hedgehog decided to climb in for some food, or just for a bit of peace and quiet… Either way, it got us wondering, what other uses are there for a Grub? Tell us a story or send us a photo and you could win a shiny new Grub and Glug.

And another tip – if you like chickens, read on for an eggsclusive offer from Your Chickens Magazine.

Happy holidays,

The Omlet Team x

Eglu Passes the Toddler Test

Cute photos – one of the many reasons that we love Facebook! Emma Fulcher posted these beauties recently, showing her daughter putting the Eglu to the test. Wanting to check that their new Brahma babies would be happy in their home, Eira checked the door, the egg port and the spaciousness of the Eglu Classic, and we are relieved to report that she gave it the thumbs up. She loved it so much, in fact, that we’re not sure if she ever did let those Brahmas share her new den…

Like fun photos? Then ‘Like’ our Facebook page today! Post your own pics too and give us all a giggle!

Omlet Newsletter – Friday, 2nd August 2013

Hello,

It’s been a sizzling start to the summer for Omlet, with lots of exciting things going on. Aside the annual bbq and several visits from the ice cream van, we’ve welcomed the arrival of two new guinea pigs and two fantastic new products. See more on that below. The other fabulous news for you all is that we have some cracking summer offers for you throughout August. Get free uk delivery on all orders over £50, add in free starter packs with Eglus and Qutes, and save a bundle!

Happy holidays,

The Omlet Team x

Qute now in Two New Colours!

Qute is now available in two brand new colours, making it easier than ever to find a small pet house to fit in with your interior. Unlike other hamster and gerbil cages, there’s no need to hide this away, because the contemporary design is so stylish that you will want it on display. Whether next to your child’s bed or in the living room, Qute will look like part of the furniture. You’ll find that it’s pretty handy for storing things on too.

With wipe clean finishes in modern White, sophisticated Walnut and sleek Birch, you can be sure to find a Qute to suit your home, and your pets will love all the extra attention they get when they are in a house that’s on display. Qute has loads of other great features too, including the innovative Lift ‘n’ Twist Tube and 1 Minute Clean.

Watch our brand new video now to see why Qute could be the hamster and gerbil cage for you!

And don’t forget, if you’re in the UK and you order your Qute before 1st September, you can get Free Delivery AND a Free Hamster or Gerbil Starter Pack. See below for details…

Qute and Go Hutch on This Morning

If you watched ITV’s This Morning on Wednesday you might have spotted a familiar face. Omlet resident Bruce the hamster was on set with Eammon and Ruth, demonstrating his lovely new home, a Birch Style Qute. Bruce nipped up and down the tube, stuffed his cheeks with food, and gave his best pout, and we think the presenters were rather taken by him. The Qute was popular too, with Paul, the vet, recommending it for its roomy size, and interior-friendly style.

The Go Hutch also featured on the Pet Clinic slot, but our guinea pigs were a little more camera shy. Paul thought it was a great choice of house, offering a cosy home and outdoor space all in one.

You can watch the episode here, and you’ll need to skip to 1 hour 9 minutes in to watch our latest stars.

Beware the Giant Cockerel

Warning. There’s a giant cockerel on the loose in London! If you’ve been to Trafalgar Square recently you may have spotted him…after all, at 15 foot high, he is rather hard to miss. The huge, bright blue bird is currently residing on the Fourth Plinth, where he will be roosting for the next 18 months. If you haven’t spotted him yet you have plenty of time to go and say hello.

The Fourth Plinth has been home to many weird and wonderful works of art over the last 15 years, and it aims to showcase contemporary art and trigger public debate about art in London’s public spaces. There has been a mixed reaction to the latest sculpture, and you can see what people thought to the unveiling on this video.

Now, this is one handsome cockerel, and we think he should have a name. Send us your suggestions and we will choose our favourite name. The winner will receive a Chicken Doorstop, Rooster Egg Cup and Chicken Cluck Mug. Email us, post your entry on our Facebook page or send us a tweet by midnight Sunday 4th August. Good cluck!
